Lecture by John Laughland . Topic: Russia and the West – Philosophical and Political Causes for Tension.

Event ended

On September 16, 2014 British philosopher and historian Professor John Laughland will deliver a lecture ‘Russia and the West – Philosophical and Political Causes for Tension’. The lecture will be part of the lecture course Time for Russia, a joint project of HSE and Civil Society Development Foundation.

Vladimir Putin’s presidency has been a political phenomenon, both for Russia’s recent history and the country’s contemporary reality. This makes it amenable to ongoing analysis in public lecture format.

The series of lectures is split into four thematic sections:
‘Domestic politics’ – on the evolution of Russia’s political systems from the 2000s to the present day.
'Social policies' – on various aspects of social policies implemented in recent years.
'Economics' – on Russia's economic development over the past 10 years.
'Foreign policy' – on contemporary Russian foreign policy.

Leading Russia specialists from North America and Europe have been invited to give lectures as part of this course, alongside Russian experts and students.
