HSE snow camp in Gudauri (Georgia)

Event ended

If you are interested in any mountaineering activity, be it skiing or snowboarding then this is the club for you.

Every year Extreme Sports Club organizes trips to the mountains, so that everybody can enjoy skiing and snowboarding.

From February 21st to March 1st, 2015, the Club is organizing a trip for HSE students, lecturers and staff, as well as their friends to Gudauri, one of the best ski resorts in Georgia. Registration is open until February 16th, 2015.

Gudauri is a tourist centre and ski resort located on southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Ridge, 120 km from the capital, Tbilisi. The skiing season here starts in December and lasts until April. The average depth of snow in winter reaches 1.5 m. Trails are equipped with modern lifts, with the lower station located at about 2000 m above sea level, and the higher station above 3300 m. The total length of the trails is 50 km.

Participants will be accommodated in comfortable rooms in a hotel with breakfast and dinner. The hotel is located close to the ski lifts. The organizers will offer a wide choice of both on and off-piste skiing and snowboarding, including backcountry for advanced bravehearts. You will climb up a mountain to a still functioning old monastery, where you can have some rest and drink hot tea, and then ski down the virgin snow (or ‘powder’). Professional guides and athletes will accompany the group.

Heliskiing and heliboarding are also available for advanced skiers. We are very beginner-friendly. Experienced instructors of the Extreme Sports Club will help beginners to learn or master skiing or snowboarding. If you have no equipment, the Club can also help with this, but please keep in mind that the number of snowboards available is limited.

According to Harry Rutberg, one of the Club’s administrators, HSE students from Russia, Austria, Switzerland, and Great Britain are already going on the trip. So, it will be an excellent opportunity to meet new friends from all over the world.

Departure: 11.20 pm, February 21, from Sheremetyevo. Arrival back: 6.05 am, March 1, the same airport. If you wish, you can stay in Tbilisi for several days on your own, and the club will help organize accommodation in the city for these additional days. Transfer will be organized from the Tbilisi airport to Gudauri and back.
