Lecture on ‘ Mathematics and the Arts ’ by Piergiorgio Odifreddi

On March 31,  2015, Professor Piergiorgio Odifreddi from University of Turin will give a public lecture on ‘Mathematics and the Arts’. The lecture is held at HSE at the initiative of the Embassy of Italy in the Russian Federation in cooperation with Istituto Italiano di Cultura, and will examine the deep and close relationships between Mathematics and the Arts. More specifically, Prof Odifreddi will talk about ‘a mathematical reading of the arts’, and will present a short history of the visual arts from a mathematical perspective.

Piergiorgio Odifreddi is a professor of Mathematical Logics at University of Turin and a famous popular science writer and essayist. He is particularly interested in the subjects of the history of science and philosophical atheism. Prof Odifreddi has been a regular contributor to various Italian newspapers and journals, he also regularly conducts discussions on various scientific topics on Italian television.

Professor Pietro Fre, Department of Physics, University of Turin, Attaché for Science, Embassy of Italy in the Russian Federation, will make the opening remarks.

Q&A session will follow the lecture.

The lecture will be held in English.
