Professor Emmanuel Petrakis of the University of Crete, one of the leading researchers in information and communication technology, with main interest in Industrial Organization Theory and Policy, Managerial Economics and Organization, Game Theory and Bargaining Theory, Digital Economy Issues and Internet Economics, visited Moscow to present a working paper “Horizontal Mergers and Acquisitions with Endogenous Efficiency Gains” at a seminar in the HSE Management Department on May, 27, 2013. He gave a special interview to HSE news service.

— How do you see the development of research in the era of the Internet, online business and other modern innovations?

— Information and Communication technology has led to wider and deeper research, and a variety of educational collaborations around the world. Over the next few years, many education programmes and research activities will be online in real time.

— Talking about the internationalization of modern research, do you think that your concepts and findings could be used in Russian economics?

— I believe, for instance, that part of my work leads to interesting insights in competition policy issues that can be of great value to Russian authorities. Moreover, the findings from other areas of my work could be used by Russian enterprises and organizations to improve their performance.

— Are you planning any joint projects with HSE researchers in the future?

This would be a great idea and I am very interested in exploring all the opportunities available to us. I am going to continue my collaboration with Igor Sloev at the Management Department of the HSE, and also extend it to involve other members of the HSE, while at the same time exploring some other possibilities for a more permanent collaboration with the HSE.
