On June 16, 2014, the International Master in Comparative Social Research Open Day will be held at the HSE. The event is organized by the HSE Faculty of Sociology in Moscow and St. Petersburg together with the Laboratory of Comparative Social Research.

The programme is geared toward ambitious students interested in building careers as sociologists in academia and research institutions. Professor Ronald Inglehart, the programme’s Research Supervisor, says that this programme gives students ‘an opportunity to develop their skills in sociological research in an international context, while obtaining an insider’s perspective on life in a major ex-communist society.’

This Master’s programme will give students the ability to write scholarly articles based on analysis of empirical data. Graduates of the programme will be empowered to publish their research in international peer-reviewed journals. In addition, students will be encouraged to continue their careers within the Ph.D. programmes at the HSE's European partner universities in collaboration with the HSE advanced postgraduate programme. Graduates will also master skills in applied research analysis, which are in great demand by international organizations and companies such as the World Bank, International Labour Organization, OECD, UNESCO, UNISEFF, GFK, and others.

Instruction is divided into five blocks: general scientific inquiry, methods, theory and thematic concentrations, the Master's thesis, and the international research internship. Christopher Swader, Programme Director, highlights that these blocks ‘aim to empower future comparative sociologists through offering them the chance to learn how to combine diverse empirical methods and theoretical frames into top-notch scientific works. All of this is offered in a structured academic format in multiple locations.’

During the Open Day, participants will have the opportunity to meet the programme supervisors and lecturers, learn more about the programme’s international partners and obtain further information about the learning process.

Start time: 4 p.m.

Address: 9/11 Myasnitskaya Ulitsa, Room 424
