Today, HSE is the only Russian university to offer such a wide range of English-language undergraduate programmes. Four programmes are administered jointly with the University of London — long an HSE partner university — and one programme is run in cooperation with the Kyung Hee University (South Korea). Three programmes are dedicated to social and economic sciences, while the other two focus on digital technologies, which is not typical for international programmes at Russian universities. Double-degree programmes are usually oriented toward western universities, so cooperation with an Asian university is also innovative.

All five programmes are full-time and fee-paying, but for some categories of students, merit-based discounts are provided.

HSE and University of London Double Degree Programme in Economics

This is one of the first undergraduate double degree programmes in a Russian university, which has proven its effectiveness over time. It was launched in 1997 and is administered in cooperation with the world leader in socio-economic education — the London School of Economics and Political Science, which is part of the University of London. The HSE International College of Economics and Finance (ICEF) was established in order to administer the programme.

After the first year of studies students are enrolled in the international programme of the University of London, and they have an opportunity to choose one of six tracks: Banking and Finance, Accounting and Finance, Economics, Economics and Management, Economics and Finance, or Economics and Mathematics. Along with the internal system of examinations and tests, ICEF students also take international exams at the University of London.

There are 220 fee-paying places, with 30 places designated for international students.

HSE and University of London Parallel Degree Programme in International Relations

This programme is also administered in cooperation with London School of Economics and Political Science.

After the first year of studies at HSE, students who have completed the Foundation Year programme are enrolled in the first year of the programme at the University of London. Since HSE’s partner programme stipulates three years of study, in the fourth year, students complete their studies at both Russian and British universities.

Students study subjects related not only to international relations, but also to the basics of science and art, as well as mathematics, economics, and a second foreign language. Every student chooses a track that provides an opportunity to deepen one’s knowledge in economics (business, trade, investment, corporate governance) or in the social and political sciences (public relations, lobbying, advertising, media and journalism).

There are 130 fee-paying places, with 30 places for international students.

HSE and University of London Double Degree Programme in Data Science and Business Analytics

This programme was launched at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science in cooperation with the London School of Economics and Political Science. Graduates of the programme will receive a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Informatics (HSE) and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Business Analytics (University of London).

During the first year of studies students study English intensively. Those who successfully pass the first-year exams are enrolled in the programme at the University of London.

The aim of this programme is to train analysts and data scientists who are experienced in applied economics and finance in particular. Students receive training in mathematics and in areas of programming and modern computer science, such as data analysis and machine learning, design and software development. They will learn to work with big data and develop analytical models for the financial sector.

There are 50 fee-paying places, with 10 places for international students.

HSE and University of London Parallel Degree Programme in Management and Digital Innovation

This is also a new programme, with the first intake being held in 2018. It trains specialists in digital technology management with a view to developing and encouraging innovation in business. Graduates receive two diplomas – a Bachelor of Science in Business Informatics from Higher School of Economics (HSE) and a Bachelor of Science in Management and Digital Innovation from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

The aim of the programme is to train specialists in enterprise digital architecture. Students will study the internet of things, technologies of distributed registers and blockchain, big data, analytics of social networks, etc. Digital technologies are considered a means of effectively solving practical problems.

The first year of the programme includes intensive training in English, as well as a block of mathematical and general courses.

Starting from the second year, students study 12 subjects in Management and Digital Innovation in the University of London programme. All teaching materials in the London programme courses along with support via an online learning environment are provided by British colleagues. To receive the University of London diploma, students must successfully pass exams in these 12 courses (four exams at the end of each academic year).

There are 50 fee-paying places, with 10 places reserved for international students.

HSE and Kyung Hee University Double Degree Programme in Economics and Politics in Asia

Another new programme (the first intake is held in 2018) is the only programme in Russia that gives students an opportunity to pursue a second degree in foreign regional studies at an Asian university — Kyung Hee University (South Korea). The first two years, as well as the fourth year, take place at HSE in Moscow, while in the third year, students have an opportunity to study in Korea, China or Japan.

After admissions the student is enrolled in two universities simultaneously and selects his or her major: Chinese studies, Korean studies or Japanese studies. The major requires the study of economics, politics, international relations, society and culture of the selected country or region, as well as an Asian language. In the second semester of the third year, students choose an additional area of specialization: international business or international relations.

During years 1-3, the study of the Asian language takes 18-22 academic hours per week, which is more than in any other Russian University.

There are 40 fee-paying places, with 15 places held for international students.

International students can apply for all HSE’s Bachelor’s programmes online until August 10.
