Activities English Speaking Guests Can Join without Offending their Ears

HSE Day 2014 is a festival for everyone unimpeded by communication barriers. The organisers have created a special space where English speaking guests can feel completely free and will be able to understand what is going on!

Don Plagiarism or Insomnia? And who are you?

Foreign students are sure to want to play in the English rounds of Unimafia, this is a customised version of the popular game Mafia. The rules are simple, each player is given the role of someone in the university who can either help or hinder students in their work. The roles are from student life so will be familiar and amusing to play - you might be Freebie, Group leader, Don Plagiarism, or even Deadline. The players have to guess who’s who. It’s just for fun but you do have the chance to win if you get through all the study, pass your exams and become a proud graduate of your favourite university!

Listen to your own at HSE Open Talks!

Russia is an interesting place to live but there is nothing more heart-warming when you are abroad than to meet people who speak your own language. For the first time HSE Day will have a place for talks by HSE English speaking teachers and researchers at the Lectorium. Academics in different fields from different countries will talk about their research and gladly discuss it with their audience. Yuval Weber will talk about his experience of living in different countries, his account of living in Russia will be of particular interest, Michael Rochlitz will touch upon the problem of dealing with local bureaucrats in China and in Russia. Sarah Busse Spencer will explain the strange concept of social capital. Valentina Kuskova will engage the audience in a quiz on the Myths and Facts of Management and then she’ll talk about what actually lies behind the concept of management in terms of managing yourself, others and entire companies.

Gather at: 13.00 at the English speaking Space HSE Open Talks Lectorium

They don’t bring their samovars here! - (Russian proverb)

In that unique corner of national culture - the Russian Tea Room - connoisseurs of the enigmatic Russian soul gather to teach foreign guests everything or almost everything about the mentality of Russian people - that Russia isn’t all bears, vodka and severe frosts. Since olden days, Russian tea rooms have always had a cultural programme, here you’ll find specially prepared quizzes and games about Russian language and Russian culture. You can bring your friends along to crunch on sushki, sip tea from a samovar and get to know local traditions.

Faster, Higher, Stronger

Sport is the most understood language in the world. All our international guests must come to the special country HSE Land - a place for active relaxation in the student section. Here you can limber up on all kinds of attractions, pretend to be Michael Jackson battling for the title of best dancer (there’s a prize for that by the way) and play frisbee. The volleyball court will be open all day and students from the HSE Extreme Sports Club will put on demonstrations and give master classes in skateboarding. Beginners can learn the basics of how to stay on a skateboard, long board and how to do some simple tricks. Anyone who wants can try riding like the wind!
