HSE’s Business Incubator in World Top 25

At the UBI Awards ceremony in London’s Trafalgar Square on November 25th, it was announced that HSE’s Business Incubator is 14th in the UBI Global best university business incubator rankings in 2015 and the only Russian representative in the top 25.

At the regional ceremony UBI Awards in Europe in Turin a month earlier, HSE’s Business Incubator was declared 7th in the rankings of top university business incubators in Europe.

60 indicators grouped into three categories were used to measure the incubator’s productivity - impact on the ecosystem, value for clients and attractiveness of incubation programmes. The cumulative score for HSE Business Incubator was above average on all counts.

In benchmarking, UBI takes into consideration the resources and possibilities available to the incubator (income, number of jobs created, number of partners and events organised), and the results of residents and graduates - the volume of investment, survival rate of start-ups and number of deals made.

UBI Global is the only ranking comparing incubator productivity world-wide which presents the trends of global infrastructure. 1200 business incubators in 73 countries from 6 geographical regions took part in UBI Global in 2015, 340 of them (from 64 countries) were recommended for benchmarking. The predominant specialisations for incubators are IT (39%), socially oriented enterprise - 13%, ecological technology and biotechnology - 8% and 7% respectively.

The British incubator SETsquared - a joint project between Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey universities - was recognised as the best university business incubator in the world in 2015. Chaoyang Technology University (Taiwan) business incubator came second and Ryerson University (Canada) incubator took third place in the rankings.
