Why I Chose Global Business Programme

We sat down to talk to Jatin Garg, our international student from India, about his decision to apply for the Global Business master's programme, what the process was like and where he expects to end up after graduation.

The decision to study at HSE

After graduating from my Bachelor’s programme, I began looking for graduate programmes which dealt with finance and management. I wanted good quality education and was focusing on world-renowned universities which top the international rankings. However, I didn’t want to end up with a student loan just to study at one of these so-called ‘elite’ universities. I eventually found HSE, which ranks highly and offers reasonable tuition fees. As I perused the catalogue of programmes on the university website, I came across the English-taught Master’s programme, ‘Global Business’.

The most interesting thing about this programme is that it is truly ‘global’ in nature. Students in the programme have the opportunity to study in 3 different countries (Russia, Austria and Italy) in their first year and in one of 25 countries at a foreign partner university in their second year. In my opinion, what makes this university one of the best is the fact that it has so many partnerships with large international corporations and with universities such as University College London, UK.

Getting there and future plans

I have been involved in my family business for the past 5 years and we are focusing on becoming more international. However, I lacked theoretical knowledge necessary to make the major steps. The Global Business programme was the answer. I truly believe that I can take our business further by applying the skills I have gained from my studies so far. And I’m excited about what’s left to learn!

I have applied to several universities before, and the application process for HSE was definitely the easiest out of the lot. University applications can cost a lot of money at elite institutions. Some charge $100, just to apply. At HSE, the application is free! So, from the outset, I had nothing to lose – and everything to gain!
