HSE St. Petersburg’s Master’s Programme in Arts and Culture Management Partners with the Hermitage

As part of an agreement signed by HSE University and the State Hermitage in July 2019, the museum will become a partner of HSE–St. Petersburg’s Master’s programme in Arts and Culture Management. Hermitage staff will teach courses in the programme. The agreement also provides for joint projects and student internships at the museum.
The Arts and Culture Management programme will offer an Art Management course, developed by the Hermitage Youth Center. The course will consist of a series of lectures and workshops on various aspects of art management. Hermitage staff will also be involved in courses in Art History and Contemporary Cultural Practices. Some of the classes will be taught in the Hermitage exhibition halls. As part of the partnership, Hermitage staff will be able to invite students to participate in team and individual projects of the Youth Centre.
HSE University and the State Hermitage signed an agreement on cooperation in education and research in 2019. The agreement extends to all HSE campuses. It provides for joint applied and fundamental research projects, student participation in joint events, and also the creation of internships and visiting positions for HSE students and faculty.
Interaction with the museum will allow Master’s students to gain unique knowledge and skills through working with elite members of the museum community. It will also open up new creative and career opportunities for students. In addition, students will be able to build their portfolios by working on practical cases in Russia’s premier museum.
Sofia Kudryavtseva, the head of the Youth Centre, is the curator of the partnership on the part of the State Hermitage. Yulia Trabskaya, the Academic Supervisor of the Master’s in Arts and Culture Management, will oversee the collaboration on HSE’s side.

Interacting with the world of the Hermitage opens up unique creative work opportunities for HSE St. Petersburg students. Undoubtedly, the partnership will help expand the scope of training and creative projects in the Master’s programme in Arts and Culture Management. Hermitage employees possess invaluable experience in organizing projects at the international level and are ready to share it with our students. The students will develop art design thinking skills, which are critical to their future careers. They will learn how to plan and hold large public events and international exhibition projects. They will also be able to better understand the role and work of the art manager.
I am confident that this cooperation with the Hermitage will enable us to train unique specialists that will be in high demand both on the Russian and international job markets.

HSE Art & Design School Moscow to Offer Online Talk Series Jointly with Goldsmiths

The Arrival: Performative Lectures in the Liminal Space Between States and Cultures
From December 1 to 17, Dr Margarita Kuleva, head of the Department of Design and Contemporary Art at the Higher School of Economics – St Petersburg will give a series of performative lectures dedicated to changing relations between space, body, and culture in the context of new travel. The project is structured around auto-ethnographic experiences and a historical investigation of 19th-20th century Russian culture in motion. The lectures will be held in the English Channel Tunnel, an aircraft hangar, and Pushkin House in London, with access to live streaming.
