Global Business Graduate to Organize TEDx in Nizhny Novgorod

TED is a conference focused on spreading unique and groundbreaking ideas. The lecture topics are varied, including science, art, design, politics, culture, business, global issues, technology, and entertainment. The TEDx project helps people in different countries, cities, universities and communities organize independent conferences in a TED style. Anastasia Polozova, graduate of the programme in Global Business has initiated the organization of a similar event in Nizhny Novgorod.  

‘The idea of organizing this event at Nizhny Novgorod suddenly came to me.  Last year I heard about the TEDx format (not to be confused with the main TED) from a friend. The letter "x" here means that the conference is organized by people from any city and any country, the activity is franchised by the TED main office.

I started looking into this opportunity: it turned out that the TEDx format has been running in Russia since 2009 and  in many cities it has become an annual event. I was surprised and came up with the idea of making our city part of the TED community! I asked my friend Lisa Fomina to help me. We studied the license terms and conditions and contacted TED. And now, after 3 months of negotiations, we have received our license and the unique title of the event - TEDxYouth@KulibinPark. ‘Youth’ here means that the event is organized by young people, and therefore the speakers should also be young and enthusiastic representatives of business, science, media and other fields.

TED controls the quality of the product and checks compliance with the standards. And it is our challenge to make high-level presentations and to deliver the ideas of Nizhny Novgorod speakers to the world. The videos of the best presentations will be uploaded onto the TED official website (TEDx section), and anyone from any part of the world will be able to watch them.

All the presentations will be in English. Of course, it is exciting for all the speakers, as English is not their native language, but several coaches and experts will help speakers prepare their presentations over the next few months.

We have received a lot of cooperation offers, help and support! It is incredible! In high school we watched a lot of TED lectures to improve our English. And it turned out that we were not alone! But the main thing in TED is not learning English, but informative and impressive presentations. And we will work hard on this in order to inspire the audience.
