Since its beginnings in 2006, the Center for Advanced Studies has been developing and expanding its remit to recruit academics with PhDs from international research universities to raise academic standards of research at HSE. If initially recruitment of foreign-trained academics was on an ad hoc basis, since 2009 the process has been becoming more systematic and dynamic and is seen as crucial to HSE becoming an internationally recognized research university.
