Courses

History, Politics and Semiotics of the Russian Space

The course examines the ways in which geography shaped Russian history. The enormous Russian space has largely determined the format of the Russian state: indeed, governance in Russia is about the relations between space and the state.

The lectures outline various forms of governance and state-space relations in Russia. This is a journey across five centuries of Russian history and across numerous disciplines: from political economy to semiotics; from sociology to security. Each lecture treats Russian space from a different perspective, giving a colorful multi-dimensional picture of Russian politics and civilization.
