Biography
Rector of the National Research University - the Higher School of Economics (HSE)
Graduated in Economics from Moscow State University.
From 1979-1989 Yaroslav Kouzminov lectured in the Department of Economic Theory and History of Economic Thought at Moscow State University. From 1989-1993 he worked as a researcher for the Institute of Economics, Russian Academy of Sciences.
In 1992 Dr. Kouzminov, in cooperation with Prof. Evgeny Yasin, proposed the establishment of a new type of institution of higher education - the Higher School of Economics, to the Russian Government, and thus he became the youngest Rector of a state university in the Russian Federation.
At present Yaroslav Kouzminov is a Professor, Head of the Department of Institutional Economics, and Director of the Centre for Institutional Analysis at HSE.
Dr. Kouzminov is the author of more than 50 academic works published in Russia and abroad, and a co-author of over 10 monographs and textbooks on Institutional Economics, Economics of Education and Institutional Reforms. He is Editor in Chief of the journal "Voprosy Obrazovania" (The Journal of Educational Studies), and member of the editorial boards of of the HSE Economic Journal and "Mir Rossii" journal (Universe of Russia).
In 1989 Yaroslav Kouzminov founded the "Istoki" ("Sources") almanac, the first periodical about Economic History and Economic Institutions in Russia.
In 2002 Dr. Kouzminov was awarded with the Order of Honour by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation. In 2003 the French Government made Dr. Kouzminov an Officer of the "Order of Academic Palms" (Ordre des Palmes Académiques).
