Master's Programme in 'Data Science' Accredited by AI Alliance Russia

Based on the assessment results, the programme's strengths were identified as its broad coverage of educational disciplines, in-depth exploration of theoretical aspects in machine learning, the quality of staff, and the involvement of potential employers. This is the fifth educational programme at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science to receive this prestigious professional and public accreditation.

‘Working in Academia Is My Lifelong Desire’

Majid Sohrabi is a 28 year-old student from Iran currently enrolled in a doctoral programme at the HSE University Faculty of Computer Science. Before starting his PhD, he graduated with honours from the university’s Master of Data Science programme. In addition to studying, he also works as an assistant at the School of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence and a research assistant at the Laboratory for Models and Methods of Computational Pragmatics.

HSE and University of London: Joint BA Programme in Applied Data Analysis

In 2018, the Higher School of Economics will launch an English-taught double degree programme in partnership with the University of London in Applied Data Analysis. Graduates will be awarded an undergraduate degree from HSE in Applied Mathematics and Information Science and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Business Analytics from the University of London. International applicants are invited to apply online starting November 15, 2017.

13th International Conference on Concept Lattices and Their Applications 

On July 18-22 the 13th International Conference on Concept Lattices and Their Applications was held at HSE. The conference has been organized since 2002. This year it was held in Russia for the first time. The event was organized by the International Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Structural Analysis and the  School of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence of HSE Faculty of Computer Science.

Computers to Spot Pedophiles

Concept lattices can help spot pedophiles on the web. Researchers of the HSE's Department of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence have helped the Dutch police create a computer program that can detect internet pedophiles and even determine how dangerous they can be.

10th International Computer Science Symposium in Russia

On July 13th-17th 2015, the 10th International Computer Science Symposium in Russia took place. The largest conference on theoretical informatics in Russia was organized by Irkutsk State University, the Higher School of Economics and Yandex. Vladimir Podolskii, Associate Professor at the Big Data and Information Retrieval School took part in the event as guest speaker. Maxim Babenko, Head of the Joint Department with Yandex also delivered a report during the event.

HSE Student Team Reaches Final of the World Championship in Programming

The HSE team in sport programming has taken part  in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest NEERC and reached the final. Following a fierce battle in the semifinal, the HSE students came seventh out of the 250 teams which entered the contest.

ECIR 2013: in Search of Everything

On March 24 -27 2013, the 35th European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR) took place in Russia. Yandex and the HSE School of Applied Mathematics and Information Science organized the conference, which was held in Russia for the first time. More than 300 researchers, mainly from Western European research centres and universities, took part .

On May 3rd and 4th 2011, the annual meeting of the Association of Russian Holders of Scholarships from the Chancellor of Germany and an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation seminar. It included a presentation of projects by 2012 scholarship holders.
