Abstract

Enterprise architecture can be understood as a set of specialized documents and associated techniques for planning information systems and improving business and IT alignment in organizations. Enterprise architecture is necessary for managing the evolution of extensive IT landscapes of large organizations in a way aligned with their business goals and strategies. This course provides an overall introduction to enterprise architecture, discusses core concepts relevant to the subject and covers in detail several popular types of enterprise architecture artifacts.

  • The acquisition of the broad theoretical knowledge of enterprise architecture as well as the practical skills for developing specific types of enterprise architecture artifacts

  • Able to develop an enterprise system portfolio for the organization based on its business goals and organizational structure

  • Knows the meaning of enterprise architecture, enterprise architecture artifacts, their purposes, lifecycles and other properties
  • Knows the popular types of enterprise architecture artifacts, their typical informational contents and usage scenarios
  • Knows the three key processes constituting enterprise architecture practices in organizations and their relationship
  • Understands the conceptual analogy between enterprise architecture and city planning practices and the six types of relevant documents
  • Understands the role of IT in modern organizations, the problem of achieving business and IT alignment and the concept of enterprise architecture as a solution to the alignment problem
