Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course Global Industries Analysis is an introductory two-module course for second-year undergraduate students. The course is taught in English. Russian is used as supplemental language to explain basic concepts and introduce some Russian terminology. The course covers the most popular industries: Healthcare, Retail, Financial institutions, Transportation, TMT, Oil&Gas, Metals&Mining, Real estate, Public sector industries etc. Each industry is discussed in terms of its costs and revenue streams, main players and business lines.

  • To form a high-level understanding of the functioning of various global business industries
  • To introduce students to different ways of solving business problems in global industries
  • To provide students with relevant information about the new trends in global business industries
  • To become a field laboratory for students working on specific cases related to global industries analysis
  • Ability to select and use instruments for data processing, analyze the calculation results and provide recommendations in global business industries
  • Knowledge of specific terminology in each industry

  • Be able to analyze the industry-specific data
  • Be able to formulate well-grounded hypotheses, test them and provide solutions for each global industry, in order to solve business cases

  • non-blocking Participation during lectures and classes
    Students are expected to attend every lecture and class and participate by contributing to the in-class discussions and problem solving. Students may prepare to their in-class problems by reading the materials provided at the end of each lecture.

  • non-blocking Final written exam
    The exam lasts 120 minutes and contains 8 case problems that includes some essays and problem- solving tasks similar to class problems.

    0.4 * Group case project + 0.15 * Socrative tests + 0.15 * Participation during lectures and classes + 0.3 * Final written exam
