Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course provides students with ability to master basic concepts and methods of ensuring human life safety. The course let students obtain a holistic view of contemporary mechanisms of influence on the most important spheres of security in public and educational life and get practical skills in providing safety in the framework of life activities at the university, in the big city (St.-Petersburg), as well as skills of observance of personal safety in information space and psychological sphere.

  • Know the basic approaches to the definition, study and understanding of content, role and value of safe behavior in natural, man-made and social-generated emergencies; health and a healthy lifestyle, ways to ensure the information and psychological security of the individual; state system of population protection and its legal framework; duties, rights and opportunities of students in the process of training; creates and maintains safe living conditions, also in emergency situations
  • Know the basic approaches to the definition, study and understanding of content, role and value of safe behavior in natural, man-made and social-generated emergencies; health and a healthy lifestyle, ways to ensure the information and psychological security of the individual; state system of population protection and its legal framework; duties, rights and opportunities of students in the process of training
  • Be able to identify important components and areas of life safety; formulate the requirements for safety of society and the environment of learning / living in a big city; recognize and evaluate situations and risks dangerous to life and society; act and use means of individual and collective protection, provide first aid to the victims.
  • Have the skills (to gain experience) of application of scientifically grounded technologies of observance of information security; use of psychological relaxation techniques and building safe relations in an educational institution; development of personality traits necessary for safe behavior, both in emergency situations and everyday life in a large city; adherence to a healthy lifestyle.

  • Safety of a student at the megapolis
    Safe behavior in a big city: The danger of abductions and methods of warning. Rules of behavior with dogs. 3.2. Transport security. Basic safety rules in public transport and on the subway. Responses and prevention of pickpocketing and other excesses. 3.3. Security in crowded places. Security measures for street riots. Rules of communication with the police and other official structures. Self-defense, its legal foundations and limits. 3.4.
