Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course is aimed at developing students ' academic skills necessary for using English language in educational, scientific and professional activities, further education, as well as research activities.
Learning Objectives
- The course is aimed at helping students of the pre-intermediate level of English or lower overcome the language barrier and grow into independent language users.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Increase students' vocabulary in everyday and academic spheres
- Strengthen students' grammar competence
- Teach students effective listening and reading strategies that will enable them to understand authentic discourse
- Develop students' writing skills through short essays, emails and journals
- Help students become more confident speakers by participating in role-plays and delivering presentations

- Interim assessment (2 module)Throughout the course students accumulate points for a variety of tasks. Tasks have different weights and at the end of each month the maximum amount of points might be slightly different. Individual student’s progress will be measured against the maximum possible score in each month and then converted to NES grades. The minimal passing grade is 60% of the month's maximum score.
