Course Syllabus
Abstract
This course provides an overview of major works of social thought from the beginning of the modern era through the 1920s. Attention is paid to social and intellectual contexts, conceptual frameworks and methods, and contributions to contemporary social analysis. Writers include Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Montesquieu, Adam Smith, Marx, Weber, and Durkheim.
Learning Objectives
- The overall aim of this course is to provide a conceptual overview of the history of sociology, to explore its theoretical frameworks, to introduce its key concepts and basic theories, including its contribution to contemporary social analysis.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Knows the commonly used terminology in social and political sciences;
- Knows the basic sociological theories, understands sociological view of the main social and political processes (from early modern history to our days)
