Аннотация

The course Bilingual Family Language Policy has been designed for postgraduate students and will acquaint students with the various language practices used by (bilingual) parents in their communication with their children. We will study in detail the dynamics of the use of language(s) in a bilingual family, consider what factors (gender of parents, status/prestige of the language, language ideologies, national/ethnic belonging) affect the choice of a parent of a language in communication with their child, as well as compare what language practices children use in communication with parents. After studying several cases of the use of two languages in the family (UK, Germany, Norway, Russia, USA), we will try to determine what factors determine the formation of language policy in the bilingual family
