Аннотация

Upwards of 25% of the human cortex is directly involved with processing visual input and even more is involved indirectly in helping to interpret that input. Since most these visual areas are coded in the same coordinate space as the retina, if we know where a person is looking we have an excellent representation of the visual information that is being coded in the brain. As we navigate and inspect the world around us, we make we make roughly three eye movement every second in order to bring the high resolution cells in the fovea to areas we wish to inspect. Recording and measuring eye movements in experimental or real world settings can provide information on a person’s visual input, attentional state, and other more cognitive functions. This course will explore current eye tracking technologies with a focus on video-based eye trackers (videooculography) but will also consider alternate techniques like (Electrooculography). Topics will include: a survey of current eye tracking solutions available and the advantages of disadvantages of each; experiment methodologies that are particular to eye tracking; a survey of observable eye data including saccades, microsaccades, pupilometry and smooth pursuit eye movements; and advanced techniques such as gaze contingent displays and combining eye tracking with EEG and TMS. The class will conclude with a series of practical sessions on how to implement experiments, collect, analyze and interpret data using high speed/resolution eye trackers available in the psychology department.
