Course Syllabus

Abstract

The fields of gender studies and Islam are of particular significance in the context of academic scholarship concerning the MENA region. Historically, the region's cultures and Islamic traditions have been closely intertwined; a variety of perspectives on Islam have had a significant impact on the shaping of these cultures, as well as being influenced by them. However, the nature of such interconnections has changed since the early 19th century due to the military and diplomatic presence of major global powers at that time, as well as the impact of Western modernity. The course consists of eight lectures and seven seminar sessions. No specific prerequisites are requested for participation in this course.
