Scotland and Catalonian independence and political rhetoric concerning their self-determination are constantly developing and evolving. The political decisions have to comply with changes, follow the sentiments of the society. The politics do not make the decisions concerning such significant matters in separation from the public. The policymakers produce, introduce and implement those decisions in the public sphere, providing the society with necessary information on the considered issue and creating the public discourse on the required matter. Policy reasoning is one of the most important components of the political speech. The motives of each and every participant of the political process are formatted with the discourse that currently exists in the society that has been created through precise public argumentation. The research problem: Scotland and Catalonia, as well as the United Kingdom and Spain are currently seeing the active process of the pro- and anti-independence movements development and change. The situation in the two countries differs but the precise and comprehensive policy on the matter is inevitably needed there. The policy reasoning is an integral part of the self-determination policy in these countries and their regions. The research question: What argumentative strategies are used to form self-determination and territorial integrity discourse in the United Kingdom and Spain? The research goal: to systematize different argumentative strategies used to form self-determination and territorial integrity discourse in Catalonia and Scotland. The research tasks are: 1. To identify argumentative strategies used in Catalonia and Scotland. 2. To outline the main features of argumentation strategies. 3. To compare argumentative strategies of Catalonia and Scotland. 4. To systematize argumentative strategies.
