The Role of Individual Values and Motivation in Literary Creativity of Poets and Prose Writers

This research is dedicated to analysis of relations between values (according to S.Schwartz approach), motivation types (according to Deci and Ryan SDT) and creativity among poets and writers. After theoretical analysis several hypotheses were made: about differences in values priorities, different sets of values and motivation types related with creativity in these two groups and about mediator role of motivation in relations values-motivation-creativity. Sample consisted of 240 representatives of little creativity involved in writing poetry or prose during last year. It was revealed that poets and writers have different priorities of Social Focus-Personal Focus values; that Openness to Change and Self-Transcendence values related to creativity among poets while Conservation, Self-Enhancement and Self-Transcendence values are related with creativity among writers; and that autonomous motivation can serve as mediator in both groups.
