Specific Features of Chinese Economic Expansion in Central America and the Caribbean
In 20th century countries of Central America and the Caribbean became a part of the Taiwanese sphere of interest. They recognized the ROC instead of the PRC and received financial help. Beijing expressed no objection because small and poor countries of this region shown no potential. But times have changed: Chinese ambitions as well as demands grew more and more. In 1990-s, already well-developed China established stable presence in Latin America. And now almost 20 years later it swung its arm to Central America and the Caribbean. But why Beijing became so interested in the region which it ignored for so long time? Chinese officials claim that it is a part of their strategy of helping developing countries but is it true or not will be our task to find out. The main aim of this work is to prove that Chinese economic expansion in Central America and the Caribbean is an instrument of Taiwan suppression and self-fulfillment by means of which China wants to change the world balance of power.
