History of Science

  The aimof the courseis to teachstudentsthe theoretical andmethodological foundations ofthe history of scienceand technology, thesystematic study ofthe mainstages in the developmentof scientific ideas, from the knowledge andtechnological capabilities precivilizationalperiodof human history.Students will learn science and technology of antiquity and theperiod ofscientific knowledgeof the Middle Agesin WesternEurope,the Byzantine Empire, in the Arab-Muslim culture. Students will study the development of sciencein the Renaissance. They will systematizeknowledge on theindustrial revolution, the formation oftechnical sciences,scientific and technological revolutionof the XX century, achievements and perspectives ofsciencein the XXI century.

Studentsmust master themethods and formsof scientific investigation; methodsof classification of scientifictheories; skills of separatingthe main and secondaryinscientific theory, proficiency in the useof logicaland mathematical methodsin scientific research; skills ofphysical and mathematical modeling; learnways to fulfilla scientific experiment and means of the results interpretation; to study theethicsof the scientific community.
