HSE Alumnus Maxim Oreshkin Appointed Advisor to Russian President

Maxim Oreshkin, Russia’s former Minister of Economic Development, was appointed Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, following Vladimir Putin's decree of January 24.

HSE University is proud of its graduates and aware of their career successes. We wish Maxim Oreshkin the best of luck and success in his new position.

Earlier, HSE Academic Supervisor Evgeny Yasin spoke about Maxim Oreshkin as follows: ‘He is an educated and qualified professional, and a young one at that. This is his strong point in my opinion. He also had good teachers along the way. After all, he worked with both Kudrin and Siluanov, and also spent some time at VTB Bank.’ Evgeny Yasin has been quoted as saying that HSE produces professors, millionaires and ministers, and now we can add that HSE alumni’s careers can lead to the Kremlin.

Maksim Oreshkin received his Bachelor’s degree in 2002 from the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences before going on to complete a Master’s in finance in what is now called the Master’s Programme in Financial Markets and Institutions. He served for four years as a division leader for the Russian Central Bank and later as managing director at Rosbank. He then went on to work for Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank and VTB Capital.

In 2013, Oreshkin jointed the Ministry of Finance, where he initially headed the Department of Long-term Strategic Planning. Two years later, in 2015, he was named a Deputy Finance Minister. In this role, Mr. Oreshkin was in charge of macroeconomic issues, risk analysis in the budgetary system, and matters concerning monetary policy. In 2016, he was made Minister of Economic Development.
