Kyung Hee University

Towards Global Eminence

Kyung Hee University was founded in 1949 with the mission of ‘creating a civilized world’. Since its establishment, Kyung Hee has followed a tradition of combining academic and practical achievements, the pursuit of universal values and harmony. In 1965, the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) was established, and its subsequent activities include contributions to the UN International Day of Peace in 1981. In 1993, UNESCO recognized the efforts of Kyung Hee University on the global stage with the creation of the Peace Education Award. Kyung Hee’s Seoul, Global, and Gwangneung campuses form a comprehensive and future-oriented academic system, which serves 25,508 undergraduate students, including 3,008 international students, and employs 1,419 full-time professors at 21 colleges and 82 departments. The university has cooperative partnerships with 523 sister schools in 77 countries. Furthermore, it also has active exchange programmes, including the Global Collaborative Summer Programme, as part of its international educational offerings.

Among the graduates of Kyung Hee University, we can note the current 19th President of the Republic of Korea - Moon Jae In, the First Lady of ROK – J. Kim, President of World Taekwondo Federation Chungwon Choue, leading Korean diplomats and politicians, top managers of large national and multinational corporations.

College of International Studies

Established in 2005, the College of International Studies at Kyung Hee University is a leader in this field in Korea and intends to become a leading, globally recognized college in this particular field. The College is the successor of the School of International and Area Studies and the Department of International Relations, which had existed since 1992 before being transformed into the current school. By March 2010, the School took another bold step in its development by transforming itself into the College of International Studies. The College of International Studies is proud of its distinguished faculty members, the fact it teaches the nation’s top 10 percent of students, offers many curricular and extra-curricular programmes, and provides diverse financial aid and exchange student programmes. The College’s curriculum is made up of four modules: International Relations, International Economics, Global Business, and East Asian Studies. All classes are held in English. Furthermore, the College has been actively pursuing the internationalization of its programmes and activities by building global partnerships, as well as by recruiting distinguished international faculty and the best performing international students.

Institute of International Education (IIE)

The Institute of International Education (IIE) at Kyung Hee University was founded for the purpose of becoming a forerunner in globalization studies, as well as such fields as Korean and foreign language education. The Korean language programme at Kyung Hee University was started in 1993 to provide Korean language and culture training to government workers and has continued to build its reputation as one of the nation’s top language facilities. At present, 10,000 of the university's students are enrolled in the foreign language programme, which includes English, Japanese, Chinese and other languages, as well as TOEIC or TOEFL prep classes.

Other programmes offered by IIE focus on fostering future leaders. These programmes include a scholarship co-sponsored by the governments of Korea and Japan to train students for further study at renowned Japanese engineering universities. Another landmark project is a leadership programme, which aims to help students prepare for and enroll at University of Beijing without having to take entrance exams.

China

Fudan University

one of the most prestigious and selective universities in China, located in Shanghai. It is included in the top 100 best universities in the world. The direct operator from Fudan University is the International Cultural Exchange School (ICES), one of the first schools in China to teach Chinese as a foreign language.

Japan 

Waseda University

The most prestigious private university in Japan, founded in 1882 and located in Tokyo. It is included in the top 200 best universities in the world. The direct operator of the program from Waseda University is the Center for Japanese Language (CJL), one of the first educational institutions to start teaching Japanese to foreign students. It is one of the three best Japanese language schools in Japan.

Indonesia

University of Indonesia

Indonesia's oldest and most prestigious university. It was founded in 1924. Located in Jakarta. Included in the top 300 best universities in the world.

Malaysia

National University of Malaysia

One of the most prestigious universities in Malaysia. It was founded in 1971. Located in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. Included in the top 40 best universities in Asia and top 160 in the world.

Vietnam

University of Social Sciences and Humanities

A major research university in Vietnam, and a member university of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. It was founded in 1995. Located in Hanoi.
