Online-Seminar "Approaches to a BRICS-centric GlobalMonetary Architecture"
The Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the Higher School of Economics (HSE) is launching a series of online seminars in collaboration with experts from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil.
This seminar inaugurates a new series of online academic events jointly organized by the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (WEIA), HSE University and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), marking the new stage of a long-term academic partnership between two leading institutions in Russia and Brazil. The key organizer at HSE University is the undergraduate programme "International Relations and Global Studies" (IRGS).
The initiative aims to foster dialogue between Russian and Brazilian scholars, researchers, and students by creating a shared platform for interdisciplinary exchange in the broad overlapping fields of world economy, international relations, public policy and administration. Through regular seminars, this collaborative series will explore critical themes such as the role of emerging powers in shaping global financial architectures, regional cooperation strategies, sustainable development agendas, the evolving geopolitical landscape and transformation of public policy and administration in such complex contexts. The project seeks to deepen mutual understanding, stimulate joint research, encourage co-production of knowledge in response to contemporary global challenges and involve students in joint research and outreach activities.
The speaker of the first seminar is Alexandra Morozkina. Alexandra is a leading expert in international economic relations, with a particular focus on global development finance, financial cooperation among emerging markets, and the role of BRICS in shaping alternative financial architectures. She holds a PhD in Economics and serves as Deputy Dean for Research at the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the Higher School of Economics (HSE University). She has authored numerous publications on the financial strategies of BRICS countries, the New Development Bank, and the reform of the global financial order.
Roberto Vasconcelos Novaes will act as the discussant. Roberto holds a bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree in Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor. A university lecturer since 2002, he has taught courses such as Entrepreneurship, Philosophy of Law, History, Roman Law, Sociology, Legal Hermeneutics, Jurimetrics, and Introduction to Legal Studies. He currently serves as Director of Technology at IDEA – Institute for Law and Artificial Intelligence and Coordinator of the Collegiate of State Sciences.
Oleg Korneev, Academic Supervisor of BA Programme "International Relations and Global Studies", will act as a moderator of the online-seminar.
