Parallels to Take Part in Teaching HSE Students

Head of the Computer Engineering School at the HSE Institute of Electronics and Mathematics Vladimir Starykh and VP at Parallels Nikolai Dobrovolsky

HSE and Parallels have agreed to cooperate on IT educational programmes. Parallels will start working with students from the HSE’s Institute of Electronics and Mathematics, and a further agreement on cooperation is to be signed with the university’s Computer Science Faculty.

Specialists from the company Parallels will take part in the teaching process and outlining careers in the sector to BA and MA students. Parallels staff will, as part of this, give optional lectures.

The Institute will also soon offer elective courses on the latest approaches to virtualization under an initiative led by the Technology of Virtualization department at Parallels, Alexey Koryakin, who has over 40 patents in Russia and the United States in this area. Students who perform well will receive certificates issues by the company, significantly increasing their appeal on the jobs market.

Parallels staff will also develop subjects for coursework, diploma work, and MA dissertations, consult and mentor students who are interested in pursuing a career in their firm. They will play a key role throughout the study process, from textbook problems posed during the early days to participation in academic research on-site later on. Senior students who have confirmed their interest in participating in long-term projects, will be able to enroll in paid work experience with the company, and even to become paid members of full-time staff.

‘For over 15 years Parallels has been working to help train specialists for the IT sector, via its joint initiatives with Russia’s leading universities. The advantage of this type of approach is that the students are not cut off from reality, they are not limited to theoretical areas – they have real problems to solve. We are glad that we have this opportunity to help strengthen the applied nature of educational programmes offered by the university and to take part in

training highly qualified specialists for the IT industry. We chose HSE as it is one of the best universities in Russia, and has built transparent and effective systems for selecting and training the most promising candidates,’ Vice President at Parallels Nikolay Dobrovolsky said.

‘It is vital that HSE enjoys direct links with top employers on the labor market,’ said Head of the Computer Engineering School at the Institute of Electronics and Mathematics Vladimir Starykh. ‘These employers include Parallels, and cooperation with them offers students the opportunity to work on practical problems while at university, carry out academic research work that produces results that can be integrated into real developments. It is important that students have the opportunity to pursue careers in a world-class software firm based right here in Moscow, without leaving Russia.’
