Research and Projects

Research

Undergraduates are introduced to research work in a research seminar where they learn how to form a theoretical framework for their research work; familiarize themselves with scholarly methodology and research methods; seek solutions to research problems and learn how to apply methodological tools.

The goals of the research seminar vary from the 1st to the 4th year.

In the 1st year students study the history of science and current trends in scholarly research. They are encouraged to choose a field of study to do some research on its objects and phenomena.

In the 2nd year, undergraduates are to take to two lecture courses:

  • Academic Discourse Skills Development
  • Literary Text Analysis

In the 3rd year the stress is on the development of academic discourse skills in students’ second foreign language and on project work in the field of history and cultural studies.

In the 4th year undergraduate students work in one of the research seminars, according to the specialization they have chosen:

  • Research Methods in Intercultiural Communication Studies
  • Research Methods in Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching
  • Research Methods in Translation Studies

Students are also offered two additional research seminars:

  • Mass Communications and Media Discourse
  • Academic Presentation Skills

Projects

In the 4th year students are involved in projects aimed at solving practical and theoretical problems. Each of the project teams is guided by a supervisor and works on its own schedule.

The work involves defining the problems and the schedule, reporting on the intermediate results and receiving feedback from the supervisor, and, in the end, presentation of the final results and their public defense.
