Course Syllabus

Abstract

During the course we will discuss the theoretical foundations of gender inequality, find out why the professions are divided into "male" and "female", we will learn what measures allow to achieve gender equility. The course will focus on the modern history of struggle for women rights and the development of gender studies, as well as gender issues in the modern public administration and political process. We will also take a closer look at the gender violence. In the end of the course we will try to calculate the aftermath of the pandemic for dicreasing gender equality in the global and national contexts.

  • The aim of the discipline is to get acquainted with the basic principles of gender studies and gain knowledge in its key areas in interdisciplinary logic.
Expected Learning Outcomes

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • The social dimensions of hierarchical power relations in institutions and status of men and women in society will be explained. Mainly gender-colored public administration will be observed. The student will study how to analyze main barriers for empowerment women and learn how to identify such phenomena as: glass ceiling, glass cliff and glass escalator. In the end measures to prevent gender pyramid in authorities will be defined.
  • The student will gain understanding of the modern theory and its historical background, waves of feminism and challenges for feminism as well as post-feminism.
  • The student will kearn main impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The global increase in domestic violence amid the COVID-19 health crisis - shadow pandemic - will be examined.
  • The student will learn main principles of gender expertise of legal documents and public administration, as well as ways of shaping gender-sensitive state policy. Experience of Europe and possibilities of Russia will be discussed.
  • The student will understand main concepts of the discipline as well as its historical associations with feminism and different approaches to the role of women. Also sociological vision of the problem will be received.
  • The student will understand the nature of the harassment and sexual harassment, different types of harassment, and the various views on victims of harassment. Also the language of description for this will be learned. Violence and harassment in the world of work will be discussed. And сase-studies will help to comprehend the scale of the problem in public administration.
