HSE Improves Position in THE Subject Rankings

The Higher School of Economics has entered the Times Higher Education rankings by subject in two categories, Business & Economics (101-125 group), and Social sciences (176-200 group), showing the best result among schools that participate in Project 5-100 in these areas.

HSE is now first among all Russian universities in Business & Economics. This subject was first separated from ‘Social sciences’ last year, which is why this year’s lists include many more universities, meaning competition in the ranking has been tougher.

‘Competition among universities is growing, so it’s important to remember that to have stable positions in the ranking, we have to be active in various subject areas. Last year, HSE was only present in one THE ranking by subject, and today we can be found in three  — Business & Economics, Social science, and Arts & humanities. Notably, HSE is now present in the Top-100 in sociology in QS and ARWU rankings, as well as in the Top-200 in THE ranking in a wider field that includes sociology’, commented Irina Karelina, Director of Strategic Planning at HSE.

The methodology of Times Higher Education rankings by subject relies on the same 13 indicators in five categories as the institutional ranking, but the value of indicators varies depending on the subject. This time, 200 universities have entered THE top list in economics, and 400 in social sciences, while previously the ranking only published a list of 100 universities.
