Demographic effects of deportation: seeking the causes of high fertility rates in the North Caucasus, Russia
Do you know how deportation (that is forced replacement) influence the fertility in specific ethnic groups? In this article we present our attempt to show how Dargin people of Dagestan who were subject to forced replacement managed to keep higher fertility in post-deportation period. Additional significant factors which have had an impact on higher fertility since the beg of 1990s can be the spread of radical Islam.
