Course Syllabus
Abstract
The aim of English for Business Communication (part 2) is to to build foreign language communicative competence at the B2 / C1 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference) in situations of everyday intercultural and business communication. The course develops communication skills to the level necessary for effective professional communication in a multicultural environment, including conducting business meetings, negotiations and presentations in the international business sphere.
Learning Objectives
- Formation of linguistic competence (language skills in oral and written speech).
- Formation of sociolinguistic competence (ability to select language resources in accordance with the social situation of communication).
- Formation of sociocultural competence (sociocultural awareness in formal and informal communication situations).
- Formation of discursive competence (ability to interpret oral and written texts in accordance with the context).
- Formation of strategic competence (ability to plan time, educational strategies in the short-term and long-term perspective).
- Formation of critical thinking (mastery of analysis and synthesis tools in interpreting results and constructing arguments).
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Know and be able to apply grammatical structures in the comprehension and creation of texts (both orally and in writing).
- Be able to comprehend formal and everyday oral speech (monologue, dialogue), understand the general meaning of the utterance, specific questions, take notes on what is heard.
- Be able to construct a written expression in the genre of an essay or a brief summary of a text, relying on the developed lexico-grammatical base on the topic, critical thinking, genre characteristics.
- Be able to deliver an oral presentation (monologue, dialogue), drawing on the established lexico-grammatical foundation on the topic, socio-cultural aspects of the communication situation.
- Be capable of working in a team, presenting project outcomes in the form of a presentation, and answering questions.
- Know and be able to apply vocabulary related to general business and socio-economic topics in text comprehension and creation (both orally and in writing).
- Be able to read, comprehend the general meaning and specific aspects of texts on general business and socio-economic topics and apply various reading strategies.

Assessment Elements
- Self-study workForms of Projects: Project work can be organized in two forms (individual or team-based); and three types (academic project, professional project, language project). Choosing the Form and Type: The form and type of project are chosen by the instructor based on the competency level of the group. Essays on the topics of the course.
- SpeakingAny type of task designed to assess unprepared oral speech will be used, including responses to card tasks, questions, participation in debates, etc. For each module, the student must receive at least three grades for full, unprepared oral responses.
- Lexical and grammatical testTests on the course topics.
- ExamExam includes tasks on listening, reading, lexis and grammar.
