The aim of the course is to introduce students to a wide range of problems related to the study of art as a specific cultural practice. The course considers art as phenomnenon closely related to ordinary life. Relations of art and politics, religion, practices and institutions contains necessary background for the specialized study of art and its main issues to be discussed within the framework of cultural studies. The material is being classified to basic concepts, problems of theory and genres of history, that could help students to learn the techniques and mechanisms of art regardless of norms and beliefs of a particular period, style, and other convention. The communicative aspect of art is also involved into the course problematics.
