The Country Studies course encourages students to develop lifelong knowledge and skills, including but not limited to a balanced understanding of the heritage and history of Englishspeaking countries (Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Australia, Republic of Ireland, New Zealand), their cultural settings, geography, society, political system, holidays and everyday life in general. Having completed the course, students will have learned of the formation of the United Kingdom, USA, Canada and other English speaking countries. They will have gained the understanding of governments and concepts of citizenship in contemporary English-speaking countires and will be able to distinguish among superficially distinctive features of these countries and those features which represent real differences among them. The course envisages various research projects conducted individually or in small groups on a wide range of topics related to area studies of the English-speaking countries.
