Course Syllabus
Abstract
The main idea of the lectures is to introduce basic concepts and problems of building common political, economic, monetary and humanitarian space in Asia and Maghreb. Special attention will be paid to Chinese projects of integration The seminars are devoted to deeper focus on these questions with the help of cases discussion, problems solving, presentations, and tests. The course will include: - Lectures; - Analytical discussions; - Case studies; - Individual and team presentations.
Learning Objectives
- To get students acquainted with the history and modern trends of integration in Asia at different levels and in different fields (political, economical, financial, military, cultural, humanitarian).
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Students have knowledge of current trends of integration in Asia.
- Students have theoretical basics on political integration.
- Students have theoretical basics on economical integration.
- Students have knowledge of specificity of political and economical integration in modern Asia.
- Students have ability to use information about integration in Asia for advising activities in business and politics.

- Topic 1. Integration in Asia: general overviewTypes of integration that exist or had existed in Asia. History of integration in Asia. Integration and disintegration: two sides of the same coin. Factors that support or hinder integration in Asia. Potential centers of integration.
- Topic 2. Political integrationTypes of political integration. Advantages and disadvantages of political integration for member countries. Evolution of political integration: from united countries to loose alliances.
- Topic 3. Monetary unions in Asia and AfricaNature of a monetary union. Types of monetary unions. Advantages and disadvantages of monetary unions for member countries. Monetary unions: colonial past. New projects of monetary integration. China: one country, two currencies.
- Topic 4. Economic integrationFree trade zones. Common projects.
- Topic 5. China and integration projectsPolitical integration. One way, one belt. China beyond Asia.
- Topic 6. International organizationsRegional and superregional organizations. Political organizations. Economic organizations. Military organizations.
