Course Syllabus

Abstract

Ethics in Psychology is an elective course, targeted primarily at the master's students at Science of Learning and Assessment program. This course will cover the legal and ethical issues inherent in the conduct and process of professional psychology. Topics which will be included for consideration are: confidentiality, ethical competence, researcher ethics, malpractice, recognizing ethical dilemmas. This course will also cover basic documents and procedures for dealing with ethical issues in research. In modern academic and professional environments, adherence to professional ethics is becoming an integral part of the professional standard, especially in areas directly related to humans’ involvement, whether they are clients or research participants. As a part of this course, students will get acquainted with ethical standards accepted in the academic environment and among practicing specialists (psychologists) and the main international and Russian ethical codes. In addition, we will consider all stages of planning and conducting research through the lens of ethics and analyzing new ethical challenges in psychology and social sciences in general. We will also solve different cases of ethical violations and ethical dilemmas looking for a more appropriate solution.
