Summary

 

The aim of this course is to study a system of concepts and approaches of research methodology, to learn about the main ideas of phenomenological sociology, as well as with strategies and methods of data collection and analysis, presentation of reports, and other skills and knowledge of graduate students in sociology of public sphere and social communications.   

 

Learning outcomes

As a result, student should

know the main origins, theoretical grounds and concepts of qualitative research traditions, bases of visual research, to learn about the main approaches towards creating of research guide and field work, and to presenting the results of the research.

develop skills of setting up goals and tasks relevant to the research method, working in research team, critically appreciating and interpreting approaches and conclusions of colleagues, using different approaches for interpretation of empirical data, compose applied tasks for qualitative research, working in action, collaborative and participatory perspectives, considering and creating new examples of co-operation with individuals, groups and communities.

acquire skillsof designing a research program in qualitative methodology framework, focusing on the issues of public sphere and social communications, get experience of understanding of social issues as collective claims through visual images and technologies.

be readyforindependent research work in qualitative methodology framework, to develop critical thinking towards research approaches and interpreting their results, to identify and react on ethical and methodological challenges, to develop original and creative ways in work.
