The present course is oriented towards the synchronic and diachronic analysis of film. The latter is being considered as visual event causing ideological reaction. During the auditorial time students are involved into critical discussion on films to be seen in advance. Professor has a function of moderator, who starts with his own interpretation and provokes alternative versions. The main convention is to be aware of method(ology) that is being used in the process of interpretation. For the reason to know the methods the initial part of the course is dealt with some theoretical trends (neoformalist, psychoanalytic, narratological, intertextual, ideological (in the sense of Louis Althusser's "apparatus"), gender, etc). Films serve and illustrate these theory in the best tradition of Eurpopean intellectual history.
