Summary

The course aims to develop a base of theoretical knowledge about public sphere, civil society, in order to apply it to the future field research, working with non-governmental organizations, groups and communities, as well as with mass media. 

 

Learning outcomes:as a result the student should

 

knowthe main explanation of public/private, the main approach to analysis of social communications, such key concepts and categories as public, public sphere, public sociology, civil society,  

develop skills ofcomparing and relating these concepts, critically reconsidering and interpreting conclusions of different authors,  applying various sociological approaches to interpretation of empirical cases and building of the research programme while focusing on the issues of public sphere and social communication,

have experience of critical discussions on theoretical grounds in area of public sphere and social communications, conducting research and interpreting the results, find literature and define new tasks for a study, be creative and innovative in working in concrete area of this study field.
