Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course provides knowledge and skills business ethics and sustainability which is required by contemporary managers: 1) Basic ethical theories as well as CSR and sustainability concepts and their application to various business dilemmas, 2) Ethical dilemmas in modern global business (discrimination, safety, market power abuse, harmful stereotypes, integrity, freedom of speech, etc.), 3) Mechanisms of managing ethics in the market (competition, state and self-regulation) and in the company (compliance systems and sustainability management). The course will be based of the analysis of business cases.

  • Be able to argue about ethical issues using fundamental ethical theory and avoiding emotional and conventional stereotypes and prejudices
  • Be able to define, examine and resolve all typical ethical dilemmas of the modern company (relationships with consumers, employees, suppliers and general society)
  • Be able to communicate about difficult ethical dilemmas with internal and external stakeholders

  • The student describes all basic ethical concepts for general ethics and business ethics, explain their strong and weak sides.
  • The student explains the ethical dilemma of quality and safety and develops the effective solution of this dilemma and communicates the solution to the stakeholders.
  • The student explains the ethical dilemma of discrimination and ethical dilemma of freedom of speech in the modern company and s able to develop ethical and effective mechanisms of resolving these issues.
  • The students explains the concept of Integrity and is able to build an ethical and effective plan to react on public scandals in accordance with integrity principle.
  • The student explains the ethical dilemma of discrimination and the role of cultural products in influencing harmful stereotypes in the modern market and is able to develop ethical and effective mechanisms of resolving these issues.
