Course Syllabus
Abstract
The course "Fundamentals of Developing and Implementing International Company Strategy" aims to introduce students to the modern methods of strategic competitiveness management based on a balanced structure of core competencies. The basic principles of total cost management (TCM), approaches to long-term product portfolio management and current trends that influence strategic decision-making at the corporate and state levels will be analyzed at the course. Special focus will be given to development and presentation of financial economic models and the use of relevant modern methods of analysis and forecasting for substantiating strategic development plans. Based on the course materials and the competencies formed in the previous minor courses, students will learn to substantiate the internal and external development projects of the company, identify their optimal structure and ensure the effective implementation of the proposed solutions. On completion of the course students will form a set of competencies required for developing and implementing international company strategy as a summarizing stage in the system of management decision-making aimed at advanced development and increasing competitiveness of international business.
Learning Objectives
- The aim of the course is to develop students' knowledge and practical skills aimed at developing and implementing the strategy of an international company. To achieve this goal, the main areas of strategic management, project and process management are considered, special attention is paid to application of financial-economic models for strategy development, relevant econometric methods of analysis and forecasting, competitiveness assessment models. On completion of the course students will form a set of competencies required for developing and implementing international company strategy as a summarizing stage in the system of management decision-making aimed at advanced development and increasing competitiveness of international business.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Classifies the basic concepts in the field of strategy development and implementation and highlights the main goals of company cost management while ensuring the effective international business management
- Analyzes the factors of the external and internal environment, current strategy of an international company using modern methods of strategic management and highlights the competitive advantages and core competencies of the company, using the principles of the resource-based approach
- Uses management tools for projects, project portfolios, processes to achieve the basic target indicators of the company's strategy to ensure the effectiveness of international business
- Substantiates the choice of the core competencies structure based on the analysis of the competitiveness factors of an international company and uses a matrix of core competencies to justify the projects scope that ensures effective company's cost management
- Formulates strategic alternatives for the development of an international company based on the formed structure of environmental factors and core competencies of the company, justifies the choice of strategy, the composition of external and internal projects (processes). Substantiates the position in the conditions of joint discussion.
