Abstract
History of Linguistic StudiesThe History of Linguistic Studies is a course aimed at studying the birth and evolution of the linguistic thought in the countries of the East and West, linguistic traditions, schools and concepts - from views of language in ancient civilizations to linguistic schools of the mid-twentieth century. The subject aims to demonstrate the continuity of linguistic studies of different periods, integral and many-sided character of the language description, general and national-specific properties of linguistic views. The course introduces students to outstanding achievements of world linguistics and instills respect for Russian linguistics.The subject is taught in a traditional academic way, but interactive methods introduced into the training (brainstorming, travel games, role-playing games) make the classes lively and interesting.The course is intended for undergraduates specializing in the fields of linguistics and philology and wishing to deepen their knowledge. The prerequisites of the course imply at least good (6 points +) mastering of the course of General Linguistics.

- Students are to know views of language in early civilisations.
- Students are to know the main trends in the history of linguistic studies in Europe and the USA in the 19th -20th c.
- Students are to know the history of linguistic studies in Russia.

- Students identify, describe, and comment on the history of linguistic studies, starting with the earliest linguistic theories.
