Abstract

The course program is aimed at creating the most comprehensive possible understanding of the development of English and American poetry in the 20th century. The trajectories of the evolution of English-language poetry are shown in parallel with historical, cultural, and philosophical contexts. The development of innovative forms of poetic expression is touched upon in connection with the transformation of forms of media communication throughout the twentieth century. The course covers both recognized and widely known names and poetic schools, as well as literary phenomena little known to the modern reader. Attention is paid to countercultural and experimental manifestations of English-language poetry; the characteristics of multimedia and performative methods of poetic expression are given. The course consists of 7 lectures and 7 seminars, involves close reading of poetic texts and analysis of key critical works devoted to the poetic phenomena discussed.
