For this graduation paper the researcher has chosen the theme “Political issues in glossy magazines published in Russia: features, trends, and prospects.” In this study the researcher is going to trace how the traditional subjects of glossy editions have changed under the influence of the socially-minded audience’s demand. The author has analyzed the new themes which have appeared since 2012 and systematized approaches that they use to cover “alien” themes: from choosing heroes to presenting the material. The aim of this research is to analyze the political component in the glossy periodical press by the example of certain editions (GQ, Esquire and Rolling Stone) published with the assistance of foreign owners. In the course of this study, the researcher tried to fulfill a range of tasks. 1. To reveal tendencies in the development of glossy Media in Russia in the historical retrospective. 2. To analyze the modern glossy media market and their target audience. 3. To describe the typology of modern glossy magazines. 4. To single out non-traditional approaches in the development of glossy magazines. 5. To carry out comparative analysis of the above-mentioned glossy magazines addressing political themes, from the point of view of their audiences, choice of heroes, genres, style and peculiarities of the presentation of the material. 6. To determine the prospective of developing political themes in glossy magazines. The empirical basis has been constituted by the materials of the glossy magazines under study, interviews with the representatives of the publishing market and political scientists, and some expert comments. The current hypothesis of the research was stated in the following way. The more active the state is in the mass media market putting under control the segment of social-political media, both directly or indirectly (through loyal owners), the more other media which are out of this sphere of control, including glossy editions, published with the assistance of foreign houses, address political subjects. To prove this hypothesis the author has chosen the following research methods: - qualitative analysis of the materials selected for this work - comparative analysis of the editions selected for this work The author claims that this research can be of practical significance for working journalists to seek new ways in developing the glossy segment of the media market in the environment of the growing social-political activity of the target (already existing and potential) audience. The structure of work is traditional: it consists of introduction, three chapters of the body split into ten paragraphs, conclusion, references and supplement. In the course of research the author drew a conclusions: - The researched magazines got involved in politics due to the growth of public activity. - In this political situation, these magazines have shown efficiency, as well as kept pace with the development of the political situation. In this regard, political rubrics on their sites were organized. - The affect on the content of publications was caused by the fact that editors and journalists became involved in the political processes. - Despite the fact that the researched magazines worked on unfamiliar for them topics, they also tried to adapt them in order to fit their concept.
