This study estimates the effects of income inequality on economic growth for the Russian Federation and its regions using the Russia Budget Survey data for the years 2000 and 2010. The results provide the evidence that the regions with lower levels of income inequality and poverty experienced higher economic growth than others. At the same time, the regions that experienced higher economic growth had lower levels of poverty and income inequality. The paper underpins the assumption that a positive and virtuous cycle of poverty and income inequality reduction are mutually connected with higher economic growth. Since geographic location can affect economic growth through externalities, regression analysis is applied. The results of the research show that regression parameters are significant determinants of growth and income inequality.
