The annotation.

The theme of M. Chilikina’s graduation paper is “Documentary TV Projects on Contemporary History of Russia: genre specificity”. The choice of the theme is motivated by a big author’s interest in the TV-series “Born in the USSR”. This series is the main subject of the research.

The aim of the research is to understand which art receptions directors use. What do they do to capture everyday life as history? Do they use the similar art receptions or not? The tasks of the research are: the analysis of theoretical sources on this theme, review and analysis of the chosen films and comparison of them. The methods of the research are comparative analysis and analysis of content.

The empirical base of the graduation work are TV projects “Up Series” and “Born in the USSR”, documentary film “Anna”, and other films and internet-projects which show how every-day life meet the political events.

During the study the following idea became clear: even the same idea of the documentary project is transformed in different countries, because historical and political contexts are different. “Up Series” is more calm and private than “Born in the USSR”. The British project is about family problems and maturing. The Russian one touches the global themes, because there was a lot of shocks on the territory of the former USSR. Moreover, young heroes have already got over two serious tests - destruction of social ideas and the technical progress. The heroes also face to armed conflicts (in Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia) and to personal problems.

Also the research shows that directors use different art receptions to achieve the same goal.

During the study were explored modern Internet-projects about contemporary history of Russia. The researcher gave the forecast of the interaction between short documentary videos and feature-length films.
